Final Project

These are great pictures that I got from Community Commons. I did not edit all of them since I used so many, but at least 10 of them are edited from original some of them are very apparently edited, and some not.

Portrait

This shot turned out a little dark due to the lighting, but not bad overall. Portraits are hard to take simply because getting a person to smile and not blink and pose somewhat is a bit of a challenge. Fortunately, my brother (unlike me) enjoys being in the spotlight. No, he doesn't always dress like that, the picture was taken in Canada and he's "trying to look Canadian". I'm not sure if its really working.

I used the same picture...see if you can notice the differences.

Dodge/Burn

Here we have the bathroom that I just tore apart today. I used the burn tool to black out the window. Kind of gives it an eerie look and gets rid of the label in the window.

Lighting/Color edit

Two different sets of pictures. The top and bottom pictures are the originals. You can see the before and after shots on both of them. The river shot I made darker and added more contrast. The apple tree shot I changed to become very green. I also adjusted the color curve which gave the grass a rather mossy look.

Crop

To go with my moose, I have a deer. The original is the wider shot, where the deer appears very small. I cropped the picture to get a closer look at the deer. It does lose a little clarity, but my camera takes a good enough shot that I can digitally zoom in and still end up with a decent picture. Picture was taken at my parent's house in Barton.

Landscape

I took a few different pictures of my backyard. I'm working on doing a bit of landscaping back there and so I'm going to try to show the progress in the next few weeks. I took the picture a few times, but got a glare from the sun on a couple of them. Still have a bit of foliage up here where its hot and dusty (ha).

Slideshow

Moose

Alright...here we have the centered moose on the bottom and the moose on the third line on the top. Although there is another moose in that picture, the main focus is to the right.

Aesthetics

Alright, so working in a restaurant, I happen to know that Aesthetics of food is very important. Not only taste, but sight, smell, sound, touch. No one wants a lousy smelling, gross looking, hard as a rock hamburger (just as an example). That being said, aesthetics is big in food, and menu making.

Lighting Situations

I used my girlfriend's stuffed penguin as my model this week. You will see four shots here. Top shot is no flash with the bright outside light shining through the windows from below. Below that is no flash, curtains closed so essentially no light (as if you couldn't tell there was no light). Second from the bottom is no flash with a spotlight below and overhead light on. Bottom picture is same as one above it but with flash. I think the biggest thing I noticed was that between the two bottom pictures, the one taken with no flash is much sharper than the one with flash. There was so much light in the picture already that the flash wasn't really needed and didn't really help the situation at all. It was interesting as I played around with the lights inside and out how I could make the picture barely visible to very sharp depending on whether the flash was on or not. I took a picture with the lights all off and the flash on as well, and it came out the best. I couldn't tell where I was pointing the camera because the room was so dark, but once the flash went off and the picture was taken, as long as it was pointed in the right direction it came out pretty good.

A analogous and a complimentary

Okay, so I'm sticking with the apples here since 'tis the season. My analogous is the apple, the beach towel serves as my complimentary. Being a business major, I have to point out that nearly every beach towel you find will be complimentary in color. When is the last time you saw someone with a black beach towel? In fact, most beach items are complimentary, or at least a bright color. Reasoning for this? Well my first thought is that these colors don't heat up in the sun. Second thought, bright things just go with the beach. They are easy to find, fun to wear and the beach itself just brightens your day overall. Okay, so enough marketing...notice the red, yellow, greenish yellow on the apple and the complete opposites with the towel. Definitely more contrast with the towel. I think by color, the towel is more visually appealing as well. I'd rather paint a car orange and green than all the colors of an apple.

Week 3...the College level Collage.

Alright, so this week I am posting the collage. Since it rained all day today I took mostly pictures from inside and a few that I took last night. A few textures and a few close ups.

Compare and Contrast

Alright, so here are my two images....

These were actually taken one right after the other, but the focus on one was different than the other. One, I held down the button and let it focus first, the other I just let it take the picture quickly. Seemed to make a big difference in the lighting, but the lighting is exactly the same. The camera just focuses better and allows for a better picture when the button is held down half way and things get into focus first. The second image shows a lot more shadow than the first one as well. The flash was on for both of these and these two were taken at the same angle. I took other pictures (slightly different poses) in the same room from different directions. These came out different as well, but I thought it was interesting that these were so different, yet taken from the same vantage point. I think that the one that is brighter looks much better, and go figure, its also the one that I allowed to focus.
